Pre-K Graduations Mark the Coming of Summer
Students in Pre-K and Preschool at Today’s Child Learning Center’s 5 community-based sites received their diplomas during their center’s Pre-K Graduation ceremony. All the ceremonies were well attended and took place during the week of June 7, 2010.
Decked out in caps and gowns, the graduates and their families celebrated the past year as they looked ahead to Kindergarten. The centers were decorated with balloons and flowers as the community gathered to celebrate the achievements of these young boys and girls.
At Today’s Child -- Media’s graduation, after reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, students performed several songs for their family and friends including You Are My Sunshine, Graduation Day and Off to Kindergarten We Go. The Center Director, Ms. Cristina, read a poem titled “Great Expectations” and then students received their diplomas. Everyone watched a slide show, put together by the Pre- K teacher Ms. Lori, and then enjoyed refreshments with their family and friends.
At the Colwyn Campus’s graduation, there was a packed house. Students listened to their teachers, Ms. Ruthlyn and Ms. Simona, tell stories about how they’ve progressed through the year. Students sang the Pledge of Allegiance and Star Spangled Banner, and soloist Jovan Chaney sang “The Impossible Dream” and “Go the Distance”. The graduates put on a small performance and parents made a presentation. Ms. Darlene, the Center Director, emceed the evening’s events.
Primos and Springfield both had a special guest at their graduation. State Rep. Bryan Lentz (D-PA), who is running for the US Congress, had an official from his office drop off to students at the Springfield Campus, a certificate stating they completed TCLC’s Pre-K or Preschool program. Springfield Center Director Ms. Jessica presented the students with the certificates and their diplomas. The students and teachers attended the ceremony in t-shirts they made, including their names and handprints.
A bright sunny day greeted students graduating at Primos. State Sen. Ted Erickson (R-PA), stopped by to congratulate students on their achievement. He attended the graduation not only as an elected official, but also as a supporter of Early Childhood Education. Students at Primos entered to a cadence and sang goodbye to Pre-K. Ms. Jennifer, the Center Director made a presentation to parents and gave some opening and closing remarks.
Main Campus had the largest group of students moving up to either Kindergarten or Pre-Kindergarten. Students received their certificates while their teachers and parents looked on. Ms. Tracy read a poem titled “The Flower” and the students sang songs like “Skinnamarink” and “Five Little Monkeys”. They also read the poems “We Are Here to Graduate” and “Whether the Weather”. Ms. Kelly and the teachers all spoke about how proud of the graduates they are, and wished them nothing but luck as they progressed further in their academic career.
