Building Learning Skills: Young Toddler Program

In the Today's Child Learning Centers Young Toddler classroom, the schedule planned for your child's day includes activities to help develop large and small motor development, such as art, music and beginning social skills.

Early education goals for children at this age include:

  • Learning about themselves and others
  • Experiencing their feelings
  • Communicating Effectively
  • Developing fine and gross motor skills
  • Acquiring thinking skills

Academically, the children are introduced to the concepts of the alphabet, colors, shapes and numbers during circle time.

Physically, the children will be working on improving small motor skills by using a spoon to feed themselves, tearing paper, pasting, using puzzles and Play-Doh, painting and coloring.

Large motor skills are developed by practicing rolling, throwing and catching a ball as well as jumping, climbing, hopping and walking up and down stairs.

Each month's activites are based on an overall theme and detailed lesson plans on each them are created by the classroom's lead teacher. Click Here to view this year's themes.

We also concentrate on beginning potty training skills.

Each day you will receive a written report detailing your child's eating, diapering or potty training attempts and sleeping routines as well as special remarks from your child's educator.

Today's Child provides breakfast, lunch, and a snack as part of our meal program.

Parents are responsible for providing a sleeping bag or blanket for nap time (we provide a nap mat), a spill-proof cup, diapers or pull ups, baby wipes, a complete change of clothing and bibs.
