Head Start and Early Head Start

Head Start and Early Head Start are comprehensive, federally funded programs dedicated to fostering school readiness and providing developmental support to children from low-income families. These programs are offered at no cost to eligible families and aim to break the cycle of poverty by equipping children with the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in school and beyond.

What is Head Start?

Head Start programs are specifically designed for children aged 3 to 5 years. The curriculum emphasizes early learning, health, and family well-being. By providing a well-rounded, nurturing environment, Head Start prepares young children for the academic and social demands of kindergarten and elementary school.

What is Early Head Start?

Early Head Start targets pregnant women, infants, and toddlers up to the age of 3. This program focuses on the critical early years of development, offering services that support prenatal care, parenting, and child development. The goal is to ensure that both parents and children receive the resources and education necessary for a healthy start in life.

Eligibility and Enrollment

Eligibility for Head Start and Early Head Start is primarily based on family income, with the programs designed to serve the most economically disadvantaged families. Other factors, such as homelessness, foster care status, and receipt of public assistance (TANF or SSI), may also qualify a child for enrollment.

We offer Early Head Start programs in Chester County: Frazer, Lionville, North Coventry & South Coventry.

We offer Early Head Start & Head Start at our Philadelphia/Northern Liberties Location.
